Lanturn tells the story of Princess Nesbia, a young woman trapped in a dark and dangerous forest. Her only companion on this journey is a magic lamp named Lanturn, which has the ability to speed up or slow down time. As Nesbia's loyal companion, Lanturn wants to ensure Nesbia's safe passage out of the forest. Using Lanturn, the player can slow down or speed up projectiles, timing them perfectly to allow for Nesbia's safety. As Nesbia progresses through her journey, however, she encounters more numerous and more dangerous obstacles, and Lanturn must push himself to the limits to ensure her survival.

Lanturn is a 2D sidescroller with an unusual twist on the traditional platformer formula. In Lanturn, rather than the player controlling the character, the character moves through the game on its own, and it is instead up to the player to manipulate the environment to allow the character to succeed.
